What Have You Done to my UFO?

Another challenge at Mailblocks, we exchanged UFO projects that have been stumping or not inspiring us, for another to finish. I really had a great time with this, and I would say it was a huge success.

This is Sandra's UFO. Since I have known Sandra for a while now, I knew when I first saw this, she would think it was boring and definitely not inspiring. Sandra is a purple, pink, blue fan, so I used purple print to make the logs into stars and a purple floral that had a lot of the log colors in it, to make the star sashings.

This was my UFO, foundation pieced triangles that I just started playing around with one day, but failed to have the inspiration to finish. But I loved this purple/mango color combination, so they seemed to be the perfect UFO for me to submit.
Wow! Just look at Susan's incredible finished top! She calls this Falling Stars, which unknown to her makes it doubly special! Not only do I have an awesome quilt to hang over my bed, but at the ripe old age of almost 40, I have never seen a falling star. So this is so cool that she would make this form me in this particular setting.

Recent projects

I have been sewing, I swear! Maybe not as much since the weather has taken a turn towards spring, but I still try to sit down everyday for at least 15 minutes and do some sewing. I am gearing up for the May retreat, cutting out kits so that I can make the most of my time sewing there rather than cutting or taking up too much time on the cutting mats.

This is Brenda's Purple Purples! Row x row, that's my row on the bottom. I used the pattern Devils Claws from Around the Blocks by Judy Hopkins.
This is for my friend Stacy, part of the Friendship block swap at mailblocks. All that she asked for was blocks that would coordinate with each other, I decided to send her all the same blocks, but for variety, she's getting borders to put the whole thing together. Hope she likes it!

Bee Garden blocks from http://www.quiltwith2sissies.com/. Another swap at Mailblocks, these will be headed out to Michele in TX tomorrow. It was fun to dip into the stash to pull out fabrics for this, I think they look great together!

Thank God its done!

My row for Liz's Rowxrow at Quilting in Indiana is finally done! I hate paperpiecing, but I just fell in love with this candy cane pattern at http://quiltiger.homeip.net/ and had to use it for my row. I think she's going to have one terrific quilt when its all done, what a great row x row idea! This is why I hate paperpiecing, well one of the reasons, this is the pile of all the sewn pieces. Now how can a body tell if they're right? You can't until, like me, you sew a piece on backwards and have to rip out all of those tiny stitches. Or you start cutting out the paper pieces only to find you're short on one corner. That's why I like traditional piecing, you can normally see the mistakes as you make them, not surprise mistakes that sneak up on you!
Now I am waiting on next month's row....I'm sure more paperpiecing is in my future from some of the fabulous pics already posted as site...and I am afraid!

Resort vacation

Easter morning I was sitting on the couch watching tv and drinking coffee when I saw this couple walking past the deck. I guess the parents to be were looking for a good place to relax and unwind before setting up housekeeping, and they found themselves at Resort de Leonard. I commented how strange it was they would chose a place that was fenced in with no water....then DH (who has the mindset of waterfowl apparently) said, "There's water, the pool!" The Mr then flew up and started swimming in the water that has collected on top of the pool liner. (I ran for the camera, taking pics through the door so we didn't disturb them quite yet)

Here is Mr. D enjoying the outdoor jacuzzi that the Resort de Leonard offers its guests. Invigorating to say the least on the coldest Easter morning in over 40 years.

Mr. D giving me the stink eye, apparently he's not happy being photographed au naturale even for a promotional website.
Mrs. D was sunbathing, taking in the exotic views that surround us here at Resort de Leonard which includes a weedy garden and dog poop piles, while Mr. D dried off from his dip.
The couple then must have had a lovers tiff, neither one looking at each other but instead looking around the resort for something (or someone) more interesting.
Finally, after patching things up, it was time to leave the lavish accommodations here at Resort de Leonard, both making their flight right on schedule as we tried to open the sliding door and get closer pics.

Hope you all had a very Happy Easter!

100th!

Holy cow that was my 100th post! Who would have guessed I would think I had so many interesting things to say? :-)

I swear I still sew occasionally!

Man the weather has been great around here for the past couple weeks, but today was perfect sewing weather, highs staying in the 30's...who wants to be outside today? Not me, does anyone want to bring the trash cans up from the curb and bring in the mail? No? That's ok, DH will be home soon enough to do those chilly chores for me.

So here's what I have been doing, first, fireworks blocks for swap at Mailblocks free pattern available online http://quiltville.com/tonya/asterisks.shtml And Ohio Stars for march lotto at Mailblocks. Pat is one lucky lady to win these...she's going to get close to 40 from everyone!
Now I'm off to work on Row Robin for Quilting in Indiana group....Liz's Christmas rows are kicking my butt!
